As we head into the pointy end of the year it is more important than ever to have good time management and ensure you are organised and everything is covered off before taking a well earned break.
Recently I have noticed a lift in enquiries which is great, especially after a challenging year to date however, I have also noticed that many of these enquiries are somewhat ‘urgent’ by the time they hit my inbox.
While I understand that there will always be those opportunities where deadlines are tight, a large percentage of these projects were not so urgent when they were first received. The risks associated with procrastinating on a potential opportunity are many but the main ones we come across are :
1. A QS may not be able to meet the deadline due to time constraints and current workload – this may result in you having to price the job yourself which can be nerve wracking and potentially dangerous if you are not proficient and confident
2. The QS may be able to meet your deadline but if the time is tight then there may not be time for a peer review which is an important part of the process – pricing up a project is something that you never want to rush, no matter who is doing it !
Most of our regular clients understand the importance of good time management and know that if they are serious about chasing an opportunity they need to act quickly to decide whether they will outsource the pricing of the job or not.
Many will send every set of plans that cross their desk to us to obtain a quote for our services – that doesn’t mean they will proceed with every quote but it does give them options to pick and choose which jobs they want and feel confident in securing. It also gives them an indication of when they would need to make a decision so the QS has plenty of time to meet the deadline.
